CouponAlert
A private tool that gathers coupons from our family's Gmail inboxes into one shared list, so a Lyft or Uber discount sent to one of us can be used by any of us.
Why it exists
Promo codes land in whichever inbox the service happens to email. They get missed or expire before the family member who needs a ride even knows about them. CouponAlert puts them all in one place.
How it works
- Each family member connects their own Gmail account with read-only access.
- When new mail arrives from an approved sender (currently Lyft and Uber), CouponAlert reads it and picks out the coupon code and discount.
- The coupon appears on a shared list that only our family can open.
Your Gmail data
- CouponAlert requests read-only access (
gmail.readonly). It cannot send, delete or change email. - It only reads messages from approved coupon senders and ignores everything else.
- It stores the coupon code, discount, subject line and message ID. Full email bodies are not stored.
- Nothing is sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising.
- Access can be revoked at any time from your Google Account under Security, Third-party apps with account access.
Who can use it
CouponAlert is not a public service. It is used by one family, and the coupon list is protected by a family password.
